I just bought an LS1013 10″ Makita Slide Compound saw. I find it takes a big push to slide the saw back, especially the first time. I talked to Makita and they said it should loosen up after some use. Is this common?
Thanks,
steve

Hi Steve,
Make sure you have loosened the wingnut that stops the slide. It should slide very easily after that. If not in thirty days, go to store and switch it for another.
near the Makita blue stream,

*I assume you are talking about the dual knob at the front next to the swivel release. The Makita guy told me about that one. I had read through (or skimmed) the manual but missed that one somehow. That made a big difference, like trying to push open a door when it says pull...But now it sticks a little at first push if it has been sitting all the way forward. I also get a bit of bearing noise when it goes back and forth too. Thanks, steve
*When mine was new I noticed the same thing. I tried several on display in stores and they did the same thing to some extent. It feels like a slight binding until you get it to slide. When I actually got to using it I didn't notice it anymore. If you press the trigger to start the motor before starting to slide, the vibration from the motor will tend to break it loose. Another thing is that if you push down to the cutting position and then push forward in a continuous smooth motion it won't stick. Also, when you push down and reach the cutting position, lighten up a little on the downward force that you apply before sliding, because with the saw extended out it puts torque on the bearings that makes it want to bind. In any case, it gets better with use. I think they designed it to be as tight as possible to eliminate play.
*That makes me feel a bit more comfortable. As long as they all do it (or most anyway). Thats a lot of money to spend on something that could get worse!steve
*Use it Steve...You will love it.near the stream,aj
*I love my LS1013. I don't know how I got by without it. especially that dual bevel. now if I can just remember to flip the fence out of the way before I bevel to the left. ooops
*Thanks for all the feedback. I have now used it a few times and I love it! I was wondering, will I wish I had bought the 12" instead? Thanks, steve
*No
