I want to have extra insulation blown in to the attic of a mansard roof. Because there is no overhang there is no ventilation at the eaves but lots further up on the roof. At the perimeter of the attic there is only about 2 to 4 inches of insulation covering the top plate of the exterior wall. I think that this situation is causing the ice dams to build up around the perimeter of the roof. Can insulation be pack in around the perimeter of the attic and allowed to come in contact with the underside of the roof decking? Thanks for any advice.
