Got a set of plans this week with a certain brand/ style of Kynar steel roof spec’d. Called the rep for prices and they were thru the ceiling. Was told to expect another 12% increase if order was not placed in 2 weeks and then another 12% 2 weeks after that. He said that there was likely going to be a fuel surcharge added as well if fuel prices keep rising. I ran the numbers on copper and guess what? The copper price was about 4% lower.

I guess that makes me feel better about the $5k worth of copper I wrestled yesterday. Moving nearly 600 lb rolls by yourself starts to resemble work. Delivery guy met me in a KMart lot. He was skeptical about getting them from his truck to mine. That was the easy part.
Seems you said something like this recently. <G>

What gauge is the material you're looking at, and how much per square?
24 ga. My material cost is $256.00/sq. That includes panels, screws, clips, sealants and sheet material to fabricate drip edge, flashings, ridges, etc.
Yeah, that's getting up there. Normally I would expect $175-200. Time to call the broker and see if there's a way to invest in some scrap steel futures.
We are seeing metal go way up too. The roofing sub we use is starting to shy away from metal, although he does a lot. they have been at it for since 1949
his reason are unpredicatble prices, color fading after 10 years or so and homeowner being unhappy and now say that some firemen dont like the idea that they cant tell what the structure is doing underneath in a fire and it is slick as snot when wet.
so he has been pushing architectual 50 year laminate. He knows it wont go 50 but it has good fire ratings, last long time and looks good and is about 1/2 or more less per square.
metal seems to be going up for everything. one of the local yards called me to see if I wanted to prebuy metal studs before they go up
I dont use enough to stock pile.
