I’m in the market for an affordable CMS, and wanted to check the following claim out.
There’s some flap about the DW705S on Amazon, but I thought I’d come here to the experts. The claim is that the DW705S’s “lock-down mechanism for the miter table is designed so it produces *upward pressure* on the leading edge of the table, which causes the table to move out of square with the miter fenceâ€. Has anyone found that to be the case? I’ve combed through this board’s past discussions, but haven’t seen anything on that out of square issue.
Also, does anyone have any experience with DeWalt’s new CMS, the DW715? Does it eliminate that because of the lever lock versus the tightening knob?
Thanks in advance!

Check out hdtools.com they had the Dewalt 12" for about $175.00 with free shipping.
Not sure about your original issue, but that is one hell of a deal, if you decide that's the saw to get.

Never noticed that problem. The 705 is a bullet-proof saw. Did the person making that comment suggest a different brand? Like maybe GMC or Ryobi?
You only need to use the locking knob for odd angles. 95% of the time you're going to use the 90-45-22 1/2* detents, and unless you really horse it around, it stays dead on.

Had 3 of them for years, never had a problem. If it concerns you just wait till the new ones are in the store....715, 716........They have new table lock downs - like the slider.
What does this situation in my life ask of me?
is the "s" model the same as the old 705?
I've had mine for years ... never had that problem.
and now that I try to picture it ... sounds impossible?

Here are the answers to some of the questions people had:
- No, to my knowledge, the person with the problem didn’t mention a different saw.
- I believe the "S" in the part number is for “single†bevel. Thanks so far for all your advice.
Ten,
I have a DW705S and if you really crank down on the lock, it will do what they say, but you really dont have to tighten it at all in the preset stops and if you are between two of the presets, you really dont need a lot of pressure to keep the table from moving. The guys that are having problems are probably the same ones that are always stripping screws and bolts. They need to get thier wrists recalibrated :) My Wife bought me mine for a Xmas present almost 5 years ago and I have never had a problem with it. It certainly does not get used daily, but I have built two decks with it and cut a lot of base and crown moulding for the house and have never had a problem. Nice saw in my opinion.

I just checked out the CMS’s at the store.
I got a square out and checked out the “flexing†when the miter lock was tightened. It did flex a little, especially near the end with the lock. However, taken in to account with the precision you can reasonably expect from the saw it wasn’t that much. The flex would only be a factor if you had a 8†wide board, cut flat, and cranked down on the lock quite hard. Then you might see a small gap in a 45 or so.
I tested both the new and old saws: DW705S and DW715. Both had the same amount of flex (the DW715’s lock-down is adjustable).
Thanks for all the advice; I will be buying the DW.
