I recently purchased a Jet 14″ closed stand bandsaw and am looking for a base that will allow me to easily move the heavy sonuvagun around my workshop. Jet (through several retailers) sells a custom base for around $90.00. However, I have seen some universal bases by Delta, HTC and others for about half that price.
Any suggestions on what and where to buy a base for this and other tools. Any quality issues I should worry about with the lower-priced solutions? I need a good solution for my table saw as well. Thanks in advance!

Mark,
I have my table saw on a Sears mobile base ($79.95)and drill press on a Shop Fox ($39.95). The Sears is smoother than the Shop Fox.For a heavy machine such as your bandsaw I would spend the extra for a good quality base. Happy New Year!
*Mark, I've got HTC mobile bases on my Delta 14" bandsaw, 8" jointer, and 10' unisaw with the 52" fence. All of them work as advertised.Dave
*Mark,I got an HTC on my Powermatic 66 and a Shop Fox on my drill press.( My drill press is a heavy one, and is mounted to a homemade cabinet; also fairly heavy) Both work OK. Whatever you get, make sure the casters are heavy duty (3 inch or bigger). Make sure they have a positive locking mechanism, and at least 2 out of the 4 wheels need to be a castering type. A steel frame is only as good as its wheels.I'd probably go with the Jet, or an exact copy; since you know the Jet was the recommended version for your saw. If it gives you easy portability without worry of tipping over, spend the $90 bucks. If its well made, you'll never have to buy another stand for that saw ever again.Davo.
*Mark,I would agree with Davo and probably go with the Jet or one made specifically for your machine. I have HTC mobile bases on two older PM machines. The bases which HTC sent were not exactly a glove fit (they were really too big) with the machines barely resting on only the two corner braces. I built up the interior of the bases with plywood and they are now more solid and work ok. I have the Delta universal base on an older Rockwell band saw which again is satisfactory but not as good as the base on my Delta 8" jointer which was made just for that machine.
*Mark, if you go with Delta's universal base, substitute 1.5" X 1/8" steel tube for the wood rails. Bolts together for a very strong stand. Bill
*Mark-Check out amazon.com's tool crib for where to buy. They have an HTC base featured this week (1/7).Good luck-Brian
