Moisture barrier under marble

What would make a good mositure barrier on top of kitchen cabs that will be getting a marble countertop? Cabinet tops will be 3/4″ birch ply. I would like to have something I could paint or spread on.

Seems like a pretty basic question, but searching Breaktime past threads didn’t give me anything and Google search was fruitless.
