Hi,
I need to finish a small landing on the second floor created by a stairway that sweeps 90 deg to go up. The wall is curved to match the sweep of the stairway. The curved section of the wall stops at the second floor and creates a small landing that can only be accessed by a ladder (picture below). This area was previously finished with carpet.
For the flooring of this small landing, i’d like to use 1/2″ MDF. I’ve made a template of the landing with the piece of MDF and from this template figure that the curve is roughly 49″ in radius.
However, i’m not sure how to finish the intersection of the small landing and the curved wall. To complicate things slightly, the carpet crew built-up a lip at the intersection presumably to make a return for the carpet.
I’ve been looking for flexible moulding, but haven’t found a profile that would suit the lip. Building up curved profiles would be more difficult.
The flooring and any trim will be painted – so MDF or other paint grade material is fine.
Any suggestions?
Kevin

Flextrim I believe it’s called is a paintable rubber. Several different profiles.....similar to what is offered in wood trim catalogues. I’ll try to find a link.
