Well, the cordless just wont give up. Yesterday the thing took a fifteen foot dive to the concrete and cracked the motor housing. Tape is now holding that part together. That adds to the list of tape holding the batterys in. The motor has been torn apart once with three pins (?) not going back in, they fell out when I tore it apart to unlock it and could’nt figure out where they went, so it was obviously overengineered, and works great without them, less weight to pack around too.
My question is, does anyone have any experience (good or bad) buying tools from service centers? The particular one I went to was Bosch/Skil and they claimed factory warranty, could have been any number of reasons the tool was returned, blah, blah, blah, but some really good prices. Was thinking of another Bosch cordless since this one has done so well with the abuse. Mabey I’ll get a killer trade-in too, ‘ya think?

I bought a re-con dewalt cordless from tool crib and have no problems after 4 years.
*Mixed results for me. The HD here sells demo drills here when a model goes off their list for half price. Got a 24V Bosch for 150, including battery. The battery costs that much. Had no problems. Have bought recon De Walt drills from Harbor Freight for $79 kit including 2 batteries, no problems. Once I bought a recon Makita which had a battery that wouldn't hold a charge - no refund available since was an "as is" purchase. The HD will take back a half price item if doesn't work. Bought a demo makita there which would turn but no torque and they took it right back. Then I bought the bosch...Hope this helps. Rich.
*All depends on the warranty. Have alot of recon tools, mostly DeWalt, from Tool Crib. Factory warranty is factory warranty! I shop a use tool place, http://www.usedtoolsupermarket.com , that reconditions the stuff on site and have had good luck. Just depends who you buy from. As the used tool place says....everyone uses used tools! Jeff
*I've got a lot of recon DW from their service center. Not only is it cheaper, but i figure at least one real human being worked on it. No problems ever. Also my sabre saw is recon from sears and as good as ever. The recon sticker says " July, 1967".
*Jeff, Do you mean the http://www.toolsupermarket? I can't find a usedtoolsupermarket.Martin
*That must be it! Yep, just checked the favorites, that's the place. Just traded in an under-used finish gun for a roofing nailer, and the roof gun worked great as usual(finish gun worked well too, just prefer the new senco).I don't go there without a toolcrib or similar catalog. Some prices almost match new, but others are a great bargain! I called looking for a roofing gun, and ended up buying the one he recommended over the phone. For habitat, may be a great source for beater circulars/drills and such. Real nice guys, and the guy that answers the phone when the owner is off buying is the same guy that fixes/recomditions most of the stuff. He seems to know the stock pretty good. Jeff
