*I think Kelly wants to know if Mortar shells were ever made from lime.There were certain experiments in the 1930's that were run, basically comparing flour-filled mortar shells vs lime-based mortar shells. Mind you, these were not used for live-fire exercises, but were intended for Army training, to allow GI's to practice accuracy without wasting live ammo.Flour-filled mortar shells won out, but were replaced a few years later with white phosphorous shells (willie peats). Willie peats are used to this day, now mostly in rocket form, by Forward Air Control (FAC) aircraft marking targets for fighter aircraft to easily identify and thus destroy.Hope this helps...Mongo
