Thought I would post this in case anyone cares. Just finished laying about 500 sf of Mowhawk 3/4″ solid red oak, prefinished, 3″ wide (or 3 and a fraction, whatever) Very nice product, I think there were about 3 boards that could not be used. One caveat: it seems like the boxes werre typically either shorts or longs. The shorts boxes would have very little over 36″ and some pieces as small as 12″, whereas the longs boxes had very little under 36″ and most 42″up to about 6′-6″ (I didn’t actually measure). I usually had 2-3 boxes open at all times, and just by chance if I opened a short box, the next one was long, so I was able to mix it fairly well.

I'd like to add some fuel to opening boxes of most any flooring b/4 you start.
I've run into vast color, shade and/or size differences in wood, tile and nat stone flooring. If you don't know in the beginning what you have, there's some scrambling done later to cover your ####.
Doesn't hurt to point this out ed, thanks.

LOL, Laid some last winter that was a mixed batch of shades. The lady is in DC and she picked it from a website where the manufacturers photo looked like all one color of tile.I freaked when I saw what was shipped, so I laid some out on the floor and emailed her a photo before mixing any mud to set it."Wonderful! it is even more beautiful than I expected"Whew!

I did some 4x4 tumbled travertine tile for an entry, and the customer selected a mix of 4 different shades. And then she asked me to basically do a bad job cuz she wanted it to look rustic."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson
