I am looking for a way to arrange a multipurpose room that it a sitting area , with no sofa, and can become a dining area. I am open to using any kind of table ( transformation) , pedestal, folding, extender etc, anything that will make it possible to use the room occasionally as a large dining area but most of the time as a sitting area with a small table as part of the mix. Ideas VERY MUCH appreciated!

We have a room that we will use in a similar manner in our new house. I am going to use a round or square table that extends and then this room will have bookcases and a shallow window seat. I envision that day to day it will be a quiet place to study or to play games with the option (a couple of times a year...ha-ha) to extend the table and use it for dining. Since we use a wireless network and laptops, I think this should work well. Originally, I was planning a narrow farmhouse table in this room but with some floorplan changes I lost square footage and the nice rectangular shape I had.
Thank you,I have pulled back from the plan to try to make a multipurpose area because I can't find the perfect table to work in my room. What , exactly, did you mean by the last sentence? I'm interested.Nice to have a planning buddy!
In reply to...Originally, I was planning a narrow farmhouse table in this room but with some floorplan changes I lost square footage and the nice rectangular shape I had. Our room was about 17x13 at one point...now is down to about 13x13. The farmhouse tables tend to be narrow (about 24" or 30" x 7'+/-). It just wouldn't look proportionate to the square dimensions. I tend to like a Pottery Barn-type style, so think that we will go with a round or square version with leaves. For us, having shelves and storage in this room will make it work well for a multi-purpose room. We will have our cabinet maker do shallow shelves since the room is relatively small.
Best of luck setting up your room! Try it out and if you find you aren't using the way you thought, you can change things around. If we don't end up using ours to actually eat in a couple of times a year, I may change it to a library :-))
