HELLO JAMES,
WHY DID YOU WAIT 200 YEARS TO FIGURE OUT YOU NOW NEED INSULATION. WAS IT COLD LAST NIGHT?
WHAT'S IN THE WALLS NOW AND WHAT KIND OF SHEATING IS ON THE INSIDE AND WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU LOCATED?
BTW WHY ARE WE YELLING?
GABE
*Gabe - who the heck are you? Guy asks a simple question and you are on him. I have to admit though that I admire your style; I have read many of your comments over the last few months and they are very forthwright and helpful -- none of the joking around that some seem to engage in that does nothing but show that they are 'superior' and know it all. Some of us just do not have your knowledge and experience - lighten up and you'll live longer and everyone around you will wonder what you have been up to (keep quite nad keep them guessing).
*Hi Dudley,Naw, I'm not on anyone. I was responding to the upper case more than anyting else. Notice the last comment? It's just that I like longer questions with more details. It's hard to second guess what is being asked sometimes. You may have noticed that there is a little bit of regional differences in describing certain materials. For example the poster said that the sheating was on the inside. Did he mean drywall or does he have plywood or wood paneling sheating on the inside. No one knows for sure but makes an awful difference to the advice I would give.He didn't indicate if there was any insulation at the present. He may be restricted to blowing in insulation if he can't open the walls. If he's located in a cold weather area, the sealing would take place on the inside and if he is located in a warm climate the sealing would be on the outside.See what I mean? But don't worry, I don't yell at anyone. You have to remember, the perceived tone of the words don't cost the poster any money, however, bad advise based on insufficient information can cost him a fortune. Gabe
*Gabe,Don't know what's worse:ALL CAPS, ORall lower case. i find both to be irritating, and a sign of laziness on the writer's part. makes me hesitant to help either, particularly when the question is something like: "i have a house needs paint. tell me every thing i have to do to paint the house." makes you really want to help that one, right?
*COULD YOU GUYS SPEAK UP?ALL THESE YEARS OF LOUD SAWS HAVE LEFT ME HARD OF HEARING.WHAT?......GABE AND FREDL ARE THE INSULATION EXPERTS AROUND HERE.I YEILD TO THEM WITH RESPECT. SERIOUS.IF I WERE JAMES TAYLOR, I WOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT INSULATION.IF I WERE JAMES TAYLOR, I'D BE MORE WORRIED ABOUT FIRE AND RAIN.ED. WILLIAMS.... :-)Lighten up Dudley, can't we have fun AND do business?
*Ed,I was the oldest guy at the last "Linn-Benton Small Woodland Assoc." meeting I went to not to have a hearing aide. I think those chainsaws take their toll.JonCP.S. Sometimes I sing "Sweet Baby James" while I'm working. Goodnight my moonlightladies.........
*Jon , one of JTs best in my book
*JT ws supposedly a patient at the psych hospital I used to work for. He's seen his share of fire and rain.THE ALL CAPS THING -- WHY DO PEOPLE DO IT? IT'S BEEN BAD ETIQUETTE FOR 20 YEARS OR MORE.Sorry James, you've obviously suffered exposure in this old house. Is it a nice house?
*ALL CAPS IS NOT ONLY BAD BECAUSE IT'S YELLING, IT'S BAD BECAUSE IT'S HARD TO READ!Seriously. As a publication designer in a previous life, long before there was even such a word as nettiquete, all caps was only used for very short headlines for impact. As body copy it becomes darn near illegible.Tell us more about your house James. I love early houses.Steve
*yeh, or..."Damn, this traffic jamb, how I hate to be late" - jb
*James - Don't rule out blown in fiberglass. There is a great system out there called BIBS (Blown In Blanket System) that I have used and is perfect for remodeling. Check it out. - jb
