I have been a framer for over ten years, and I have yet to find a nail bag that I can’t manage to destroy in less than a year. I don’t think I’m overly rough or abusive to them, I just wear them out quickly. I came across Occidental Leather Inc in an advertisements and noticed these bags are guaranteed for life. Before I spend $150 on a nail bag, can somebody tell me if these bags hold up like they say, or name a better one?
Thanks,
Kevin

It will be the last bag you buy.

I used a leather set of theirs for years, even when they were heavy from rain. But I am getting old.I dreded the heavy weight and it needed some repairs. Wear and tear in the leather hammer loop and the tape pouch. So this summer, before the rains hit I bought a "canvas"set. Not occidental so I could save some money. Big mistake. As soon as I can justify it I am going back and getting the occidentals. Even though the "canvas" sets are heavier then the competitors. However I did not know they were gaurenttd for life, that would have helped with the decision from the begining.Builder I is, speller I aint.
*I have the leather framer's set. They have maybe a total of a year's worth of heavy use. They still seem invincible. Some of the guys I've worked with have the canvas ones that Occidental makes. After about five years of framing, they are starting to tear in places. I asked, and they don't think it it would have torn if they had the leather ones. Time will tell with mine. Has anyone ever worn out the Occidental leather bags? Or heard of it? Not me.If, you've got the dough to spare, and plan on using them for years, 150 bucks is worth it.
*Kevin,I've had mine about nine years,if it ever wears out I'd get another one without question.Vince
*I have had my Occidental Pro-framer leather pouches for about 10 years now. They have finally worn out in the corners of the bags to the point small nails fall out and the 16 sinkers stick out point first and gouge my legs. Pencil and tool holders have lost their bottoms. As I understand their warranty, it covers defects in manufacture, not wear. No problem, ten years on a set of pouches is more than fair.Just ordered a set of their Oxy-lights (combo nylon with leather loops) I also picked up a new suspender set (Stronghold Suspension System)While I really like the new style suspenders over the old, I am still not used to the nylon bags over the leather. Sure are lighter though. Terry

Mr. Adams,
Oxy-lights are by far the most comfortable, lightest, most durable bag I've owned. Get the padded belt and suspenders, your back will love you. I modified mine slightly upon purchase, it was incredibly difficult to remove the rivets and stitching so I could relocate two pouches to my liking. These are awesome bags. However, the speed square slot is a little awkward if you try to be speedy with your square.
