Need a rugged phone

heyco | Posted in General Discussion on September 18, 2006 03:08am

Time to get a new phone ?  I have been using my Motorola Startac since I got my service. It still works but I was thinking about somthing newer but  I need something just as durable as my Startac has been. Any ideas.

If it wasn't so darn expensive, I would get one in a heartbeat.

I want to know who put together the financing on that project.  We won't design an engine that gets 100 mpg, but we have a cellular rotary phone.  We change the course of history, everyday people like you and me

I once brought my daughters toy cell phone into a bar,it was this yellow and pink soft fabric thingy, and when you pushed the buttons it had these Smurf like voices that said hello, h-e-l-l-o, H-E-L-L-O, etc. I sure got some funny looks.

With all the ringtones out now it wouldn't surprise me if they had one with the smurfs.

Go to your cell phone companies website and check out their ringtones for sale, you'd be surprised.

I looked at all the silly rap and crap ringtones, finally decided on one that sounds EXACTLY like the old fashioned 2-bell desk phone similar to the above posted. What I REALLY wanted was one that would make my phone sound like the communicator from the TV Star Trek. No dice, though- I think whoever has the rights to those sounds has 'em all locked up for the time being. Wouldn't it be cool to pull out your cell phone that looks and sounds just like the ol' communicator? "Kirk to Enterprise...................."

Yea it's hard to find a good one. I like mine to be unique in case I lose it in a store or something. I can always find another phone and call it. Much easier to locate.

Where did you find the old fashioned rotary-phone ringtone?  I've looked a little bit, and had trouble finding a source.  Sprint doesn't seem to have it.zak

I think they did it just to do it- and put it up for sale. At least that's how I read it on their site.

            Different strokes for different folks.

Welcome to Breaktime. Just a reminder.... Did you fill in your profile?
There's been a lot of postings on the site about Cell phone durability.
Myself, I have a Treo 650, but it's the kind of product (in my opinion) that belongs in a white collar enviornment. I even had to get a titanium case to protect mine on the job sites I work.
We don't get all the phones in Canada that you do in the Excited States of America, but I'm looking at the new Nokia E62, I think it is.

    Quality repairs for your home.

I have Verizon, and have used a Motorola V265 for three years, no problems. The camera is worthless, but the voice recognition dialing is the cat's pajamas. The voice dialing is real recognition, not the 'learning' type. Leather case protects. Highly recommended.
