Hi guys,
I’m a homeowner/reluctant contractor from Southern CA. Would like to replace vertical painted redwood siding with horizontal painted siding. I guess my first choice would be Hardi Plank, but a friend suggested TruWood siding as an option. It’s a manufactured wood product from Collins and that’s about all I know. Anyone have experience with this or similar products?

I'd stick with the Hardi-plank... you won't be disappointed.... now ... or twenty years from now

Seems a pity to not keep the redwood. In all probability that stuff was made from old growth redwood which won't be available again,...... ever!
cement type siding will seem old and out of date in a few years and there will be some who remove that stuff and replace it with........redwood siding!
That's funny there is another new thread here regarding someone trying to find redwood siding!

Thanks all for the comments. In a perfect world, I'd probably just repaint the redwood, as I do have an appreciation for it., However it looks clunky on the house as it is installed vertically. The house will look longer and leaner with horizontal siding, in my opinion.
I still don't have an understanding of the benefits or detriments of TruWood siding. Can anyone shed more light on this product?
While I do prefer Hardiplank siding, here is a link to the Truwood webpage. It might provide some answers for you. Note that it (Truwood) only carries a 10 year warranty.
It might be more helpful if I actually include the link to the webpage. Doh!

Is it possible to remove the redwood and turn it horizontally? Just wondering...
Or why not install cedar?
Can't install horizontally as this stuff is 3/4 inch board & batten. I took a look at the TruWood website. I'm not impressed with a 10-year warranty. HardiPlank here I come. Thanks to all.
