New Const. 2 garages: 26′ x 26′ & 17′ x 56′, need advice
I have read many posts on concrete garages. I understand that wire mesh is a waste of time. I know that I need expansion joint material all the way around the perimiters. It has been advised to put 6mill plastic down as a vapor barrier. I plan on drilling into the surrounding foundation cement 5/8″ holes, 5″ deep and epoxy in 4 foot long #4 rebar every 2 feet. I then will connect across in both directions #4 rebar to make 2′ x 2′ grid and hold them up from the 7 inch base (one garage has gravel and the other has small chip rock) with bricks to make the rebar imbeded in the middle of the cement.
How does this sound. I am having a professional sub do the work, but want to know what I need to have him do to get the best garage floors.
Too much? Over kill? Too little? Am I missing anything? How thick cement? 5″? 6″? Any guidance from those in the know would be appreciated.

Cement is one of the component ingredients of concrete, floors are made of concrete. Wire mesh is fine in a slab but the location of the mesh is critical. Even rebar has to be located as designed. Neither mesh nor rebar will stop cracking but will help control the cracks later. It sounds to me like you need an engineer to spec your slabs and then a very good crew to place it. Most garage slbs around here are 4 inches.

Drilling the rebar in sounds fine and although 4' may be overkill it won't hurt anything. Actually, your concrete finisher should be an expert on al these questions.
