badarse | Posted in Tools for Home Building on October 14, 2006 11:23am

I saw the new Makita 18 volt screwgun today ….Couldn’t believe how small and light it was! Anybody have one or heard anything about them?? Up till now my Panasonic 15 volt was my hands down favorite but I wore it out. I was gunna replace it with the same thing but now….?

You mean the impact driver?  It's been talked about a lot here.  I have one and it's great.  I had a Panasonic 15.6 as well and I recently sold it because I do almost everything now with the Makita.

Maybe someday I'll know a little something.

I believe the one I saw was not an impact driver but a standard drill/ driver

I got one of the combo kits and it came with the hammerdrill/driver.  I like the impact driver so much that, as I said, I use that almost exclusively.  I use the drill for more precision or when I don't want the impact action to kick in.

Maybe someday I'll know a little something.

Do you think the regular drill is as good as your panasonic was? I will be using it for driving three inch screws setting cabinets

Yes, though it's not as small.  If you are talking about driving screws into studs for hanging cabs, then I would recommend the impact driver.  They're loud but light and powerful and set screws like a dream.  Can't say enough good things about them, and the Makita Li-Ion in particular.

Maybe someday I'll know a little something.

Yup have the same impact, drifted a # 10 x 4" into an exterior door hinge to gain 1/8" at the door margin, it moved everything very nicely. Used same for unpacking crates of $$$ furniture out of Calif. Little devil spun 1 3/4" GWB screws fast and forever. Charge lasts........

Is it the 18v with the small batteries? If so I think I'm getting 2 for the truck. It has a 1.5ah battery where the hammerdrill is a 3.0ah. It still will last longer then standard batteries. If it's a different one let me know. This one is 199.99 in the HD flier.

    Headstrong, I'll take on anyone!
