So my old roller ball mouse finally gave up….a friend has being raving about how great the “track ball” type are…..so I just got a Microsoft trackball optical…..about $29 from Staples….
Takes a little practice, but I love it. The scrolling wheel and the “back” and “forward” buttons are a real asset.
So for those of you like me, that are a little behind the curve…..

Hi Notch. I like my trackball too. Been using one for a few years now. Now I can't stand getting on someone else's pooter and futzing with the stupid mouse that has to be lifted up and repositioned and has the darned cord limiting its movement. I especially like the trackball when traveling with the GPS and laptop. I can set the trackball anywhere (on my thigh) and work it.
I didn't go with a track ball, but the optical is great. I hated cleaning the guidewheels on the conventional mouse. I even increased my high score on my breakout game. The forward and backward buttons are grrovy. I miss them t work.
...that's not a mistake, it's rustic
I tried the trackball a few years ago, never quite got use to it.
an optical mouse is nice, no cleaning, but what's really the cat's meow is a wireless mouse or keyboard, nothing to get tangled...
I tried a trackball but just couldn't use it with our software. Seems like it's easier to be precise with a mouse, and we have to hit stuff pretty close.
I dont think it would be bad for web browsing and such - Just didn't pan out with the engineering software we use.
We ended up using the optical trackball on a computerized saw out in the shop. Since it's optical the dust didn't seem to affect it much.
You are such a good friend that if we were on a sinking ship and there was only one life jacket....
I'd miss you a lot and think of you often.
