I have some 20 yr old 4×8 hardboard siding with battens that I want to install new concrete lap siding over the top of. Once i remove the battens I want to apply a roll on waterproofing, like MasterSeal. Then apply 12″ Hardie lap siding. Does anyone see any problems with this system? Also, the siding is on the 2nd story and the bottom edge of the siding transitions to the top course of comp shingles. What is the best technique to address the flashing? Install a new 2nd metal flashing behind the concrete lap or rely on the original metal flashing behind the old hardboard siding?
Thanks for your suggestions

Putting 12 inch siding over 8 inch siding sounds like a disaster in the making.
Dan, current siding is 4x8’ sheetgoods w/battens.
