New toys for Christmas

misfit | Posted in General Discussion on December 25, 2003 10:14am

Another  Christmas has arrived. So let’s hear from everyone if all your good deeds were rewarded. What did you get??

Myself,

Other than the usual stuff, I got a 1k #(gross) roller for my Golf Course lawn. Look forward to ‘mashing’ the occasional rug rat that dares to intrude on my turf! Also got a gift certificate from the local equip rental house(no.. not knucklehead rental).Hmmm…. maybe I can rent an excavator to chase that rugrat if the masher doesn’t work. But the best gift was the 12″ DW miter saw(yeah the yellow one) from my other half, but I wonder if that counts since I had to go and get the thing!! I do have to admit though, its SWEET and can’t wait to use it.

So don’t be bashful..lets hear from all you other BT’ers who have nothing better to do than yip yap at BT on CHRISTMAS DAY.

Heya hoss - you see there's another car on the Bosch train?

I got all work stuff. Awesome. Nobody this year did anything silly like underwear and socks. Hole Hawg, some Duluth bags, flannel shirts, Carhartts, bought myself a portomatic planer. Inlaws dropped half a steer on us. Holy cow! (No pun intended). Man do they raise a good steak. Now I gotta brush the snow off the grill and fire it up. Don't consider Canadian skiing without first considering Whiteface.  Conditions awesome right now.  Highest vertical drop in the east.  Heaters in the Cloudsplitter gondola cars, and Chair 6 is now open to the summit.  That big double black diamond number that pitches off the top, Upper Skyward, is like white silk.  Swish swish.  Wear your helmet always, and be careful!

Good advise on the hammer handle Gunner.........

I Got a remote Talking Thermometer for my BBQ.

You set it for Beef-chicken-lamb-fish turkey-hamburger,then rare- med rare -medium- or well done.

This nice ladies voice says "your entree is almost done"

If your cooking a burg now is the time to flip it and add the cheese.

3 minutes later she says "  Your entree is done"

It work up to 300' away.........TOO COOL!"Rather be a hammer than a nail"

Next steo is to figure how to post pictures. It came with a 100 page manual, which I'm slowly working my way thru. Its all in English, but I still don't understand some parts.

    >What and where are you building?<

    Not building...rebuilding

    S.E. CT

2 story 2k+ sf colonial w 2car gar and frt porch

13 years ago we bought what I believe is a 'spec home' (learned that here at BT). At that time, I wanted to build, but didn't feel I had enough under my belt to take on such a task. We found this new, hilltop with a helll of a view home and stole it(the RE market crashed big time here in the late 80's) I bought a new  home thinking it would be just that. But I soon learned how untrue it was. Basic structure is rock solid, 2x6, cdx, etc but everything else=JUNK. So over the years...new roof(original -3 yrs old -blew off in a major winter storm 92/93) new windows/siding(still in process) interior trim to fit new windows, new boiler(original was way undersized) and so on, etc. Kitchen and baths are next  I hope!! Also I have done MAJOR site work that required some big guns/earth movers and I loved every bit of it. All the work is being done by yours truly...the boiler did require assistance, though. One thing I've learned is how easy it is to underestimate the work and time involved. Add to that a 40 hr job and all you have left is ....well I'm sure I don't have to tell you!! At least I can live in it while the work progresses' and only have to deal with one person in charge...ME!!

     Happy on a hilltop  :>)

BTW thanks for the link to your project. Looks like a winner and add the 13k peaks ...it ought to be awsome.

    merry christmas bob;

i was spoiled this year.  i only got lots of tools.  what really supprised me was that i  got a MASTERCRAFTS socket set from my son and the exact same thing from my dad, and i gave the exact same thing to my oldest son. JR laughed because he almost gave me the same thing.  he gave me that laser measuring tool from MASTERCRAFT.  just have to figure out metric to standard.

MERRY CHRISTMAS bob and to the family.  GOD BLESS

    1. misfit | Dec 26, 2003 06:42am | #25

Thanks and Merry Xmas to you and all yours

I agree, that metric-standard conv can really be a headache at times.

        I got the flu. Ugh!

But, on the lighter side, I got a super cool JVC mini DV video camera with some really neat features. Which isn't a toll per se', but is useful for shooting some walls before I close them up. Nothing like double checking what's behind the walls when some one changes their minds! And I can leave a tape with the homeowners as well. Plus, I can transfer it to my computer. And shooting finished work is nice.

It doubles as a dig still camera with a memory card.

The the second thing is the new router. I've had a Ryobi 3HP plunge router for about 6 years now, but a buddy keeps borrowing it. He helped me out once, so I'm happy to loan it out, but he literally has it more than I do! So, I decided to say, "Merry Christmas", and just gave it to him. Got myself (Merry Xmas to me!) a new Bosch twin base setup. Motor swaps easily from fixed base to a plunge base. I hope I like it! I was swayed by their offer of a free circ saw if i spent over $300 with Amazon on Bosch tools, which I did with some other items.

Never know when you might need an extra circ saw to fill in for the ole Skil wormer!Jake Gulick
