Hello. We are currently building a new house, and just spoke with a plumbing supply company about toilets. They said that, because of the new 1.5 gallon requirements, you can’t find a quiet toilet anymore. In fact, he seemed to say that the best ones are even louder than the cheep ones! Is this true? If so, would the 3.5 gallon ones from Canada be any quieter?
thanks

* for a run down.
The guy's talking about pressure assisted toilets. They may make some noise, but it's over quickly and easier to take than, "Dad, the toilet's overflowing again!!" The latest generation of Flushmates (503) is quieter than the original 501. There are also many conventional toilets that are quiet and work well. Go to

I have a Kohler Wellworth and think its the quietest toilet I've ever used, old, new etc. It's a gravity flush 1.5 gal and has never clogged and works on one flush. My parents have the same one and have never had a problem with theirs either.

You know I'm baffled by all the negative comments about the "new" 1.5gal toilets. I installed a pair of Crane's(not the toniest brand) two years ago and haven't had the first problem with them.
Sure, about once every couple weeks I'll need to flush twice. But that does that job and I've saved water the rest of the time. They are not pressure assisted and I don't notice any difference in noise from them except that they don't take as long to fill so they don't make noise as long as the old ones'.
*We have a very quiet toilet untill my wife gets in there.
