any idea what’s causing this noise? in the linked video below, you’ll first hear cold water being turned on with taps below, then off. those are ok. then there’s a noise when hot water taps are turned on below. no noise when hot is turned off.
hot water pipe is on the right.
using hot water in the bathroom itself (where these pipes are) does not cause the noise.

Have you checked the water pressure in the house?
When you turn on a faucet, pressure drops in the pipes that lead to it.
at higher pressure, pipes move and they relax when the pressure drops.
There also are reactions when water starts or stops moving in pipes.
the noise comes when the pipe motion intersects with other objects, like house framing.
You might get some improvement by placing some fiberglass or foam tape between pipes and the holes they go through, or between pipes and studs they lay against.
I ask about the water pressure because I recently checked mine, and the water pressure went over 120 psi at night. a regulator and expansion tank got this down to a more sane 55 PSI, and I was amazed how quiet things have become.
Hey mike - thanks for the reply!
It turns out it was that I plugged the shower riser and had left the cartridge set to on. once I turned it to off, problem was solved.
