A client has 1″ mosaic tiles on the floor around a tub. They would like some kind of non-skid surface for safety. Other than tearing up the tiles and replacing with true non-skid tiles, do I have any options?
Is there some kind of non-skid sealer that can be applied over the existing?
Thanks!

Yes there is and we used it in a hotel once. I can't remember the name but it was a thick, clear liquid that got rolled on. Sorry I'm not much help on this but at least you know it's worth the search, it's out there.
*Ryan: I will look around. Micheal Byrne from the JLC site (can I say that here?)suggested etching the glaze. If possible I will try both methods, individually and combined, off site on some samples.
*OK, I'm late-but isn't the bumpy surface enough? You've got about 1000 grout lines there to grip the toes, right? Why do you need more?
*Kissler: Hi. The client wants less slippery, and it is their floor. Their inquiry doesn't strike me as unreasonable, so I am looking into it. If a client wants something I see as totally wacky, I let them know what I think (politely). Even then, I will consider it. In this case, they have a PERCEPTION of safety, and their perception counts more than mine. I also try not to forget not everyone uses, acts, moves the same way I do. I definitely agree that the multiple grout lines provide more traction than if the floor was, say, 12"x12" tiles.
*Ok, I remembered alittle more about this stuff (but not a name yet). I was told that it's the same stuff they spray inside of bath tubs to make them non slip. Not so nice to sit on I'd think but rough enough to stop a shower slip.
*Okay, for what its worth, I have found a product I might test on some scrap samples. It is called "511 Impregnator" made by Miracle Sealants Company (www.miraclesealants.com tel. 626-814-8988). The web page states: "511 Impregnator Natural look penetrating sealer. Water, stain and slip protecton for standed grout, quarry tilee, ceramic tile, glazed tile, pocelain tile, polished granite...."Ryan- is the stuff you used?I also spoke to one of the local tile subs who said maybe (big caution, no guarantees) try a palm sander to etch the surface. He added that the scratches may show up as white/lighter on the dark colors.
