I never bought or tried the attachment you refer to. The guy I work for bought a dedicated joist hanger gun, which has been a godsend. I am doing finish work now and the framing crew has got it in their trailer, so I will have to have a look see to give you the brand name. I know it sounds odd that I don't know the brand, but the new guy gets that job. :-)

This is a link to the gun I mentioned in my previous reply.
It does not drive them in one lick, but like a palm nailer has a reciprocating action.
I am not a framer but the part you are describing will not allow you to place nails in hangers. It is a trigger which allows you to only place one nail each time the nose of the nail is placed against the item and you pull the trigger. This is different than "bounce nailing" wherein you just pull the trigger and bounce the nose into the wood. Hope this helps. FHB just had an article on the type of nailer you are looking for. I believe they like a Bostich.

Attached is bostitch info on their 2in 1 framing, metal connector gun.
I've used this gun and you can't miss when you shoot into strapping or joist. Its uses a full head framing nail, and a 1 1/2in. to 2 1/2in metal connector nail. In the New York area mostley all codes are changing with use of strapping and joist for new construction.Good luck
Since I am a framing contractor, allow me to give you the way cool tool for the seismic framer. The Hitachi NR 65AK. There are positive placement tips available for the NR 83A nailer but the shorter nails do not go through the magazine too well, and the nails can tumble sometimes making it risky business. I own two of those 65AKs and they have both had thousands of nails put through them with very little trouble. They are worth a look.
