I have a 50 year old oak floor that is lightly stained and finished with what appears to be an oil or very thin varnish. The floor is in pretty good shape, just seems worn and scuffed up in a few places. I would like to lightly sand the floor with a buffer pad, perhaps a 180 to 220, then reapply a satin polyurathane finish. Are there any tricks or tips I should know about before I start this project?
Thanks!

Wash down good with paint thinner. Let dry. Buff with 100g screen well. Hand sand edges with 120g sandpaper. Vacumn. Wash with paint thinner again and coat with oil polyurethane. Minwax Fast Drying Polyurethane is a premium brand at Home Depot. GW Licensed wood floor cont.
Thanks for the pointers! I NEVER thought of using a paint thinner...what does it do, cut all the grease and gunk>? I take it the final application of paint thinner helps to pick up fine dust and more gunk?
Again, Many Thanks!
