Hi all,
I’m soon going to install oak nosing on stairs that will be tiled. It’s first time for me, I’d appreciate any tips on fastening the nosing, ie brads and glue? or just glue?
Also, I’ll be installing an 8″ trim board made of birch ply along the stairs, above on one wall and below on the other. These stairs do a 90° turn with three winders. Any recommendations on how to approach this wee project?
Thanks in advance!

Lemme get this straight..tiled stairs?..and they are winders?>..and you want to scribe a skirt board?...zat right?
nosing is a snap, nail it on with fin nails and glue, leave it high enough that it will be floosh with the tile..
Ya hafta scribe the skirt boards..AFTER the nosing, and tile..back bevel a bit. Other wise you can do the skirt first and try to grout to it..I think yer in for a ride..hang on.
Hi Sphere,
I started thinking "what the heck is a fin nail?" but caught myself. So those are better than brads and glue?
I'm doing the skirt board first. Figured out the detail at the winders. Nosing is next, then tile, then grout. Tile is that multicoloured slate, very nice.
Good..glad ya got it ironed out..now, get to work..<G>..Finish nails and glue..I am guessing the nosing is 1 1/8 with a bullnose?..save the brads for little stuff that folks wont be walking on.
