If anyone has a house–theirs or a client’s–that would be appropriate for the HGTV series Offbeat America, shoot me a line. We were on it the first season, and they did probably the best job of all the shows we’ve been on. I was pleasantly surprised. Of the 4 shows, they were the only one to as much as buy us lunch.
Anyway, they sent an email asking if we knew of other good houses, so this is a general shout out…

I've never watched the show but the title brings to mind Sphere's and Luka's places.
My place is nice but in an ordinary way... 1950's, 5 bedroom master bungalow, red brick, attached garage..... nothing "offbeat" about it....lol

LOL. I was thinkin too. BUT, I CRAVE the serenity and low profile here in the sticks and stones. Now if TOH or someone like that wanted to shellout a few gazillion man hours and freebies...? That might change my mind in a hurry.

I had the show on the DVR, but then it flaked out and took the video with it. I don't have a copy of it myself. Not gonna be able to get North in Aug. Just finishing our summer journey today (PA) and we need to be in NC all August. Some year perhaps...
Well....I certainly don't think a circa:1680 colonial could be considered offbeat america nor could the tipi...the proprietor on the other hand....

Actually Andy....yours might fit their bill, especially if filmed during the fest. You wanna pursue? Like I said, they did a good job with the editing and were respectful rather than quirky/strange, which was my requirement. Maybe they'd like to get a group of people traveling hundreds of miles with a common love of houses, etc.
OK...how do we go about it?If Blodgett and Gunner say, Tipi tipi tipi it must be so!

I'll tell them about it and give them your contact info if they're interested.
Thanks Jim
I'm sure it'd be fun having some media people running around the fest.
We'd just have to watch that Gunner kid though...I heard he has a bad habit of mooning cameras and putting webcams in out houses.
Sure would be nice getting a surprise visit from that hiding cloud dude.
You know...quick flight to Islip Macarthur or LaGuardia airport and a short car ride to the tipi from there : )
Want a dome shaped cake to pop out of??? Oopss...I mean thin shell.

May not be what they're looking for, but we're managing the restoration of Eddie Rickenbacker's home (former WWI flying ace). Small 2-story cottage, about 500 s.f.. It's been vacant for a number of years (with the exception of the occassional vagrant), but it's on a large well-traveled street in a heavily urban part of Columbus. Kind of sticks out. It's being turned into a museum, and the archaeology people are checking the site now. It's also on the national historic register. ICI Paint (makers of Glidden, Dulux, Devoe, Liquid Nails, etc.) is a corporate sponsor and has committed 40 gallons of their 'This Old House' line for it.
Another option might be in your neck of the woods. The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Arts (SECCA) in Winston-Salem had an affordable housing competition back in 2003 for contemporary affordable designs. They're in the process of building some of them now. A professor from Ohio State had one of the winning submissions. You might contact SECCA and find out where they're at in the process.
