My old house (200 years) used to have a porch. I’ve a photo of it from turn of the century, but at some point it was taken down. I’m at the beginning phase of rebuilding it, and was wondering about the floor. After looking other porch floors it seems standard to run the floor planks perpendicular to the house as opposed to parallel to it. I was just wondering if the reasons for doing this were just visual or if there was a technical reason for this.
