This is a bit off topic but I’m wondering if anyone has had any luck buying quality furniture (dining room tables, leather couches, entertainment centers, etc.) via an online website. If so, which ones? How about lighting fixtures?
Thanks, Rob

I would never buy furniture sight unseen, except maybe from a vendor I had dealt with before. If your idea of quality doesn't match the seller's idea, it's just way too much hassle to return it.
After a visit (and quote) from the local Rob and Stuckeyfurniture store, I did quite a bit of research on on-line furniture stores. I found the same exact leather furniture at Boyles furniture in North Carolina for about a 40% discount. They are a furniture retailer that also does business on-line. Our furniture hasn't been delivered yet (we're remodeling), but they offered 6 months same as cash (with minimum monthly payments). They also use a delivery service that delivers and sets up the furniture just like a local store would. If you don't see exactly what you want on their website, give them a call and speak to a salesperson directly. Good luck.
Lighting fixtures?
Brass Light Gallery in Milwaukee is top-notch. Gorgeous stuff, and great to deal with over the phone. I love their alabaster.
Also have had great success with Rejuvenation Lighting in Portland Oregon. Rejuvenation has a wider price range (less expensive) than BLG, their stuff has always come through the mail in great shape.
Both outfits have great customer service. No whining, they simply do what needs to be done to get the job done.
I have visited both stores, but now I shop or refer others to their on-line catalogue or encourage them to call or email fr a paper catalogue. Still, I always order over the phone.
I second Mongo's comment re Rejuvenation, for lighting. I have been dealing with them for almost ten years, and have always had the best of service. For another good lighting source, check out Form + Function.
As for furniture, look at Green Design, from Maine. Excellent stuff. Ships KD. Nothing upholstered, though.
Not so much online but from "mail order" via a North Carolina store. I live in NJ.

I went to the local fine furniture stores (Ethan Allen, Huffman Koos, etc.), picked the furniture I wanted, wrote down the SKU information, called up the N.C. store, got a faxed quote, and then sent a check to the store. Saved a total of $1400 (even after paying for freight) on two bedrooms worth of furniture. It was about $7000 of furniture overall.
Had aboslutely no problems whatsoever. There were some light scratchs. The store sent out a local fine furniture repair specialists. I can't even tell where the scratches are anymore.
I've ordered LOADS of furniture, accessories, fans, lighting, rugs, etc. online. Here's some online sites I've utilized and had great success (i.e. good quality product, quick delivery, good customer service, accurate billing, etc.) with; and you can order by phone from them too:
http://www.touchstonecatalog.com
http://www.potterybarn.com
http://www.homedecorators.com is currently having their anniversary sale - 10% off about 700 items right now
http://www.shadesoflight.com (NICE selection of various styles of lighting)
For various renovations supply items, ck out http://www.rensup.com
http://www.overstock.com
I frequently scan their paper catalogs, then order online after checking their own site's current pricing, then ck'g to see if overstock.com has it (that HAS happened, and when it does, is significant savings).
Personally I don't purchase a couch or something like an upholstered LR chair online because I must sit in it to see if it suits my body's dimensions... I have found I'm not the "95 percentile man" or whomever the heck they're typically designing for! So, that's one drawback from online shopping. But leather ottomans, bar stools, etc. - go for it!
http://www.Sheelys.com either in person or on line ...
and for all other things furniture ... North Carolina is the place to be ....
never bought from NC since we found the Place over the border in Ohio ...
but have several friends who furnished entire houses over the phone with sereval different places in NC ... unless you guess wrong ... seems like you get a pro each time ...
faxes .. mail .. email .. swatches ... pics .. etc ... all our friends said they all work with you ... most have claimed better service from outta state ... NC .. than shopping local.
