My water heater is about to die, and I am considering replacing it with a tankless water heater. This heater would provide all the hot water for my house, a 3.5 bath ranch style (all 1 floor). So far, I have downloaded some info on the Bosch AquaStar, and in concept it sounds like a great solution. The price is higher than a normal tank, but not as much as I expected. Has anyone had experience with this brand or any other tankless water heater as the primary hot water supply for a house?

With 3.5 baths, you will need multiple units or 1 unit utilizing a recirculating storage tank if you plan on using a tankless.
The 125 model Aquastar is good for about 3.3 GPM @ 55F rise or 2.8 GPM @ 65F rise.
A tankless with a superinsulated electric (non-powered of course) water heater as a buffer/storage tank makes a lot of sense if you want to run a couple of showers and the washer at the same time. Also consider the extra capacity required when filling a garden tub/whirlpool.

One thought on tankless heaters. The peak BTU use is high (look at the recommended size of the flue!)dictating a need for lots of air. If this unit shares the air space with a gas furnace and cloths drier, one should watch for back-drafting. This concern lead me to a closed system.
