There’s Lasco, Kohler, American Standard, Sterling, AquaGlas, etc. My project may be having a tub/shower unit and a 48″ wide shower, plus the deck-mounted whirlpool. Here are some questions:
1. It is new construction, so we can go one-piece. Who has a good tub/shower at the middle and higher end of pricing?
2. Are tub/showers and shower units bedded in mud underneath to solidify the feel of the tub/shower bottom?
3. Since they go in at rough-in time, what are you doing to protect the surfaces between then and the end of the job?

I don't know if they are distributed nationally, but American Reinforced Plastics makes a great product. They are not the cheapest, I think around $500.00 for one piece, five foot tub/shower, but they are hell for stout. Virtually all the plumbers here in the Pacific Northwest recognise them as a definate upgrade over lower priced units.
I have experience with ARP's Asian style soaking tub. Installed one last year in a home we built for ourselves. Did a soak yesterday, after skiing. Shipping whacks their price up by the time you get it to upstate NY where I am, though.
Just curious, Gene, what do you consider "upstate"? I have relatives in Cape Vincent...brrrrrrrrrr
For a lot of New Yorkers, "upstate" begins just north of the Bronx. For me, it begins about Albany, which is 140 miles south of us.
so , you must be up in AJ's & Vince Carbone's backyard

Gene,
I use Structolite to embed my units in. Most that reguire that are acrylic so I believe the purpose is to simply give support since most bases dont touch the ground 100%. What I like doing after I dump my Structolite down is to lightly drape a really thin sheet of poly over the mud loosely if for some reason I ever need to remove the tub or shower base I can. The tub goes in "after" you complete the base and tile/ marble/whatever you finish it with. the lip sits in a bead of caulk. Least thats the way I do it.

Don't know if this brand is available where you are but check out Warm Rain made by Great Lakes Plastics in H a n c o c k, MI. Great quality, good pricing. They're the ONLY manufacturer that makes a drop-in tub designed to be suspended by the lip and not bedded.
