I’m looking for a local (Orange County, California) source for channel balances and parts. The company that made the windows, Sunair Aluminum, went out of business.
Home improvement stores don’t have them.
Thanks,
Janet

I know that this is not local to you.
But they have a large selection.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
OMG those are some expensive balances.
Try stybuc they are about 75% cheaper.
As a matter of fact, the manufacturer recommended Strybuc to me. Unfortunately, Strybuc only sells wholesale. I guess that's why their prices are so much less than the other website.Janet
Bummer...they sell to contractors. There's a minimum, but not much. There is also Blaine, I'm not sure if they sell to contractors only. I get all my stuff from Strybuc.http://www.blainewindowrepair.com.

Well, well... Home Depot came through for me! It took awhile for them to understand that I wanted BALANCES, which are the purview of the Millworks department, and not VALANCES, a type of window drapery. I was able to place a special order for 12 channel balances, and they arrived in only a few days. Cost around $140, which is less than what one company charges to fix ONE window. Janet
$140 is a bit on the high side. I charge $75 for the first and $50 for any others... but it frequently isn't just a matter of switching them out. They often break for a reason or windows have shifted and exact replacement isn't possible.
There were only a few broken balances, which I replaced in pairs. Sprayed the springs of the new balances with rust preventative, and lubricated the pulleys of all the old ones. They work much better now. Guess I should add that to the "Yearly Maintenance" list.
The link is all I needed, Bill; thank you. I read their instructions for removing the sash, which revealed the balance. There was a name stamped into the cover and--hurray--they're still in business!
I guess there's not much retail demand for window balances since the closest distributor is in the next county. Good thing there's mail order.
