I recently “stopped work” on an addition because of non-payment and the case is ready for a court date. One of the issues that happened right after we stopped was the homeowner got a plumber and a electrician to finish the work and tried calling in the inspections! Haven’t we all heard that it’s “illegal” to work on another contractors permit? We called everybody here in Maryland except the Governor, and couldn’t get any “official” to do anything – “we’re to busy inspecting jobs to chase down either a licensed or un-licensed subcontractor working on an active permit”! Any ideas for recourse for a situation like this?

Could you have 'cancelled' or invalidated the permit??
I'm sure there is nothing from stopping the HO from gettin a permit.
Here is all seperate......construction, electric, plumbing.
Good luck to ya.

I am doing the same thing on a commercial job. start a paper trail ASAP. Send a dated, written notice on your comany's letterhead to the building department that you are no longer working under permit number 123 and that you wish it cancelled. I am asuming that it's your license and part of your contract to supply the permit.
do your best to be professional and keep records of your communications.

How does somebody else working on your permit harm you?
he doesen't get his share of the loot but the lion's share of the liability..

Assuming you pulled the permit, seems like the first thing to do would be to remove the permit from the site.
