Hello fellow Breaktime users,
I recently built a free standing covered patio approximately 15 feet from our house in the back yard. It is approximately 12’x12′ with four 6×6 posts holding up four 6×10 beams. I just put a hip roof on it and it is about 10 feet high to the center of the roof when standing under it. I am looking for a way to heat this area with some kind of natural gas heater. The roof is framed with 2×6 and I am going to finish the underside with redwood 1×6 T&G, stained to match the new deck I just completed. I have a gas line plumbed to one of the posts but I can’t seem to find the right heater. I would like to mount it under the roof.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

John: Many of those N.G. infrared heater you see in warehouses are designed to mounted pretty high - like 12 to 40 feet off the finished floor. Sounds like the your ceiling will be about 8 feet.
For occasional use, you could go electric. Graingers has a 3.2kw 60 degree unit that would cover 10.5 x 9.5 feet if mounted at 8 feet. Catalog number 5E161, $281. http://www.grainger.com
They also have small, free-standing N.G infrared units that might not be as efficient as ceiling mount units, but they wouldn't light your hair on fire. $200-300. -David
