I am spraying the inside of a rehab job with a Wagner set-up. I have a brand new 517 tip and a brand new gun. It always spits the paint as I pull the trigger to start spraying. This leaves little blobs on the wall that have to be rolled out. Only at the beginning of a run does it spit paint on the wall. The rest of the run is fine, no spitting.
I have adjusted the paint (Pittsburgh Paint, Satin latex interior) by adding a 1/4 pint of water per gallon per the manufacturers recommendation. Whether the paint is diluted or straight out of the container, the gun still spits paint on the wall. I have adjusted the pressure setting up and down and it still spits paint on the wall. Anyone know what the problem is and how I can fix it. Rolling all the paint after I spray it to get rid of the little blobs is frustrating. Thanks for your help.

I past years, I have had a similar problem and just set an extra bucket to shoot into at the start of each spray. The 'blobs" are frequently just material which tends to set up in the nozzle when gun is not spraying continuously.
I find if you keep a solvent soaked rag handy, wipe the tip periodically and you should be OK. I keep an eye on the tip as I spray. If it gets funky, give it a wipe. Wow, that last sentence didn't sound right!

When I spray interior walls I always backroll-you get a more even texture, and the paint gets "pushed" into the surface.
Around here it's considered the proper way to spray.
Some low budget landlords I have worked for don't want to pay the extra for backrolling. But then their Section 8 tenents don't care about a few paint spatters on the wall anyway.

Aside from what everyone else said here which is right....is to try also switching from water to Flotrol. Makes it come out of the gun smoother and really costs no more because you're basically adding more paint so to speak. I love Flotrolfor all paint jobs! Woldn't work without it.
