Painters: Rusty nail heads on wood siding
Have a pretty big prep project before painting – just about every board now face nailed throughout its life. Wood lap siding, cypress or pine.
Approach: going to reset the nails with a punch and (spray) paint heads with rust inhibiting primer. MH Ready patch has always been my go to inside.
For outside though, so many fillers on market claim to be ‘non-shrinking’ and I get why many production painters use caulk in terms of speed, but it always seemed like a bad idea – even with two coats, its not flat… The one aspect of that which makes since is remaining flexible and not popping hardened filler with the seasons.
I’ve seen others recommend glazing compound such as Dap33. Its oil based, so theres that, but long drying and won’t be sandable. Does glazing compound shrink as much as high quality caulk?
Anyone have experience with Dap Platinum Patch and revisited a project over the last couple years? Products or tips for your personal home welcomed, thanks in advance.

I used Bondo on my house for the same situation and it worked well (smells terrible though). Doesn't shrink. Dries fast and you can sand it. I didn't do it on every little hole, but the bigger ones. I used BASF NP1 on the smaller nail holes. No bleeding that I've seen after a few years.
