I’m considering painting a small brick house and have been getting conflicting information on the types of sealer, primer, paint, concrete stain, etc. to use. It’s a 50 year old home. The brick has not been painted before and is roughly textured, but in good condition. The bottom half of the house is dark red brick and the top half is a light cream colored brick. I’m concerned about covering the two contrasting colors, as well as future maintenance. Any suggestions?
Thanks

People who paint brick should be shot. Sorry, just my opinion.
Amen Brother!
Nothing like a good paint job over brick to trap moisture.
50 years old and still in good condition??????????????
There's gotta be a reason why.

Three strikes, yer out. DON'T PAINT BRICK!!
If it's dirty or something, clean it up and restore it: sandblasting or muriatic acid, depending on the situation. Then repoint as needed.
If you've got interior brick you don't want shedding crumbs in the house, you can hit it with orange shellac. Gives it that 60s Greenwich Village look....
Weird colour scheme, though; maybe the upper section of cream-coloured brick was originally covered with lap siding?? Maybe that's an elegant solution.

After having to strip paint of brick in the past I will make it a forth strike.
Paint + Brick = Bad
Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, Professionals build the Titanic.
As a homeowner of poorly painted stucco, and also someone that would never purchase another painted masonry home, don't paint the brick.
Even the ugliest bricks are more beautiful than any painted ones.
Hell, if you have to cover it, put up vinyl...at least the next owner can easily take it down. ;o)
I'll make it six strikes. This pitcher is hot! Not even going to walk a man onto base this inning..
Excellence is its own reward!
Okay, not only is it a bad idea, but it only looks good for a month. After that the new clean look fades, and what do you have left? PAINTED BRICK! You might as well use purple paint while you are at it....that's not a mistake, it's rustic
On a positive note, a pressure washer is probably cheaper than painting also!
Looks like every vote ag'in' yo'! Even those who paint wood (other than some types of plywood, chipboard, siding and hemlock) get a few supporters , you got none so far for ppainting brick <G>.
Methinks my grandpa would have busted your pinkie if you'd worked for him (1910's) for painting brick.
Painting brick is like putting Cheeze Whiz on lobster tails. Just say NO.

Hey Lisa
Wuz yer problem with lobster tails? They really enhance the flavor of cheeze whiz.
Or is this some far removed cut on my lady , Nancy R.
Don't paint brick.
