I remember reading a mention in a FHB article of a very quiet powerful panasonic exhaust fan. Can anyone point me to the article or the fan?

You read right.
Try an electrical supply house.
I've found that waveplumbing.com has always had the best prices I could find on the panasonic fans. Any of them are good, and if you use panasonic's website, it will size the fan for you.
Both Panasonic and Fantec have silent exhaust fans

Excellence is its own reward!
Bought two of them on E-bay, after going through the sizing program on the Panasonic website. Great fans, but you need a timer switch, since you will always leave them on because they are so quiet!
They are OK as for quiet but my next fan (if one of these burns up) will be an inline duct unit.
Thanks everybody.
ROB WES: why would you go with an in line?
Much more quiet than any of my 3 Panasonic units. I'll admit the install is not as fast or easy.
The Panasonic units are very good for what they are. No doubt much better than most over the counter units. However, they are not the finest if you want a really quiet fan unit.
The fantech inlines are nice. They are expandable if the unit is large enough, and the only thing you hear is the air moving through the vent cover. They install in pretty much any location as long as the duct run isn't excessively long which makes them pretty easy to install.
