I’m having a Panasonic fan installed in my bath (FV-11VF2 ). The instructions say that it’s for installation with 2 by 6 joist or larger. Mine are 2 by 4. I called Panasonic to see if this was a problem. They said that it could interfere with the performance of the fan ( he couldn’t give me specifics). Does anyone have any experience with this fan? I was assuming that they recommended joist 2by6 or larger so that the fan wouldn’t protrude past the top of the joist. This isn’t an issue as the space above is an unfinished attic.
Also, the instructions say not to install if the temperature gets hotter than 104. Seeing that I’m in Los Angeles and the fan would be in the attic I’m sure that it gets over 104 when it’s hot in the summer. Is this a safety issue?

I'm guessing that the mounting bracket is designed for a 2x6. You just need to be sure it's sufficiently well mounted.
Pile fiberglass around the fan after mounting, so it's shielded from attic temps.
Build an insulated box over it. It will be cooled off by the conditioned space.
