After reading Doug’s post, and thinking about more than a few others I’ve seen recently, I’m wondering if anyone has ever had a partnership deal that DID work out well or even end on a friendly basis. I know my one experience with it will be my last.

Once a good friend and I started a construction co. I said I would stay until he learned the business and it became a hassle for me ... then he could have it.... two years later I quit.
Even then we had money problems, but to this day we remain best of friends and when I'm slow I help him out some.
*Dick, I used to do joint ventures with a very competent carpenter. We kinda drifted apart because he used to like to take the winter off, and I'd be forced to rebuild a crew every winter. We're still friends and actually did one job last winter together. We still own some property together too. Partnerships are difficult, especially if they are created with two same type, bullheaded people. It doesn't usually work out that well.Partnerships are probably better if each person brings complimentary skills to the table.I'm am also involved in a different limited joint effort. We formed an LLC for this particular property/business. Partnerships can work well, but only if you let them.blue
*You have to let them and you have to work at it too. I'm one of four partners in a construction company which is a co-operative. The company is 16 years old now with two original members still on board (I'm not one of them) and we're going strong. We're renovators, though, and that absolutely requires advanced people skills. (I am forced to rely on my partners here)
