Aside from personal preference, what are the differences between sliding patio doors and atrium doors (where one panel is fixed and the other is a swinging door).

The opening size will be bigger in the atrium door when fully opened. The slider takes up less room when opening. The screen will def. be outside on an atrium door. What is this, a quiz?
*Uh, let's see...a. Greater variety of door styles with swinging patio doorb. Can use conventional entry set and deadbolt on swinging patio door, thus matching other entry doors in residence(are points deducted for wrong answers?)Quizingly, Steve
*One has wheels, the other don't.One has a real lockset - can match others in the house, the other don't.One catches dirt in the track, the other don't.If this is a quiz, do I get three points?
*One requires open floor space in order to open, the other doesnt, though its usually hinged in the middle and you probably wouldnt have a piece of furniture in front of the door any way. One will possibly get crud in the track and be hard to open. The slider would have to be removed to completly paint or finish the inside of the door. The slider can be opened a small amount for ventalation and still be locked. Thats about all I can think of.How'd I do?Chuck
*You all PASSED, Now on to Journey work! How 'bout this? Atrium/French = nice home...Slider = Moble home.

Sorry about the open ended, non technical question. My builder put in the wrong door (slider) and I was looking for any shred of a reason to not make him change to the atrium doors I requested. Everybody wins. Even my builder, who gets to do it right, albeit the second time around.

Scott,
Why didn't you say so. If the question was whether the builder should put in what you requested (and hopefully on paper). Sure.
Course, we wouldn't have had as much fun.
Did you request a certain brand of door from him also? Might be time to check before he installs this one.
Best of luck
