I’d like to know if anyone out there is a pellet stove expert. We’ve had an earthstove insert in our fireplace for many years. when we first put it in we were poor and stupid, and now that i’m not so poor, I am toying with putting in a pellet insert. It’s an old house, with a brick chimney (we use a SS liner now) with a funky “s” bend that goes clear to the back left of the firebow before going up. The fireplace is on the main floor of a 1 and a half story with a steep roof, so the chimney goes up about 22′ to get above the ridge. Now the question, can I use the existing chimney for venting? Most information I’ve seen shows venting out an exterior wall, which is not a option.
I appreciate any light anyone can shed on this. Thanks

don't know if you can use the chimney.... but the real question is do you WANT to use the chimney
figure out what is the most effective unit and installation
one of my nephews is heating his whole poorly insulated ranch house with a small pellet stove in the lr
he buys his pellets in bulk off season
his unit is a direct vent thru the wall
he only uses the old oil fired hot water baseboard if they go away on trips
thought about that, chimney is the best asthetically (sp?) as it is an old victorian and the room is rather small, but I could vent out the wall is I took out a window which I am relucatant to do. thanks
bump
there are many people out there who use them for workshops, you may want to ask over at knots
I'm just sayin'
thanks for the bump, I'll check it out.
