The recent article on PEX tubing in FHB got me to wondering if I could use it to connect to cast iron baseboard and then tie it into the old piped supply and return from my boiler. It sure would be easier than running pipe to new baseboard that replaces an old standing radiator. Any issues or is that material only good for radiant applications?

I hope so - I'm about to start doing just that. From reports I've read on the Wall, it works very well. Make sure the pex has an oxygen barrier so that your boiler stays healthy.
Pex is good for hot water, but if you have a steam system, check your pressure and temperature at the boiler - results cold be disastrous.
I don't know of any pex that is rated for steam, you also have to check its rating pertaining to a hot water system, as the temperature rises the ability to resist pressure falls. Information only.
Thanks, my system isn't steam and I could be wrong but as I recall my boiler runs at about 140F at 20 lbs of pressure.
The reason for my post was to point out that pex has a temperature and pressure rating, yoou must be in that span for any application that you use it for.
Plumbers are starting to use PEX wherever copper was used: Hot water heat, radiation, and hot and cold supplies. As the poster above said, it might not be right for steam. The downside is the initial cost of the rather expensive tools.

Use PEX-AL-PEX for high temperature applications: holds its shape better, and it doesn't expand when heated nearly as much as regular PEX.
PEX is best in lower temperature applications.
