Don’t fret about that call for experts. I’ll take help from raw novices too!
Anyways, Frank and I decided that we’d like to do a little phone marketing on some upcoming remodeling projects. We have a couple of additions (shells) lined up and we intend to stand them up and put the roof on in one day again, just like we did with the last on. That means we’ll be bringing in a crane and setting up the table and prebuilding everything and stacking it in the yard. This tends to cause a little curiousity in the neighborhood, and that is a good thing…I think.
So, we decided that we’d like to capitalize on the curiousity seekers by posting a phone number with a recorded message. We reason that there are many passerbys that would like to ask us what we are doing but are intimidated. We also think that if the sign says
For Information on this project: call : 586 123 4567 for a 24 hour recorded message.
We like the idea of being able to give someone a 30 second commercial before we tell them our plans for this particular project.
My question: I’m thinking of simply adding a line from Cingular or Nextal and dedicating it to this marketing ploy. I’m also thinking that someone in here might already be doing something similar and has a better service, one that might track the calls etc.
Anyone got any phone ideas?

I know there are services for realtors that do that kind of thing, including tracking the calls. Don't know any specific providers, though.

Quick google search for
realtor phone messageyields:http://www.connectmevoice.com/realtor_phone_system.htm

Yes Rebeccah, that might be what I'm thinking about.
The first service in your list would charge us about $20 per month for 100 minutes and .59 per minute after that.
I'm going to keep digging.

you will need to have a annocer of some sort on the line , probably be good idea to have a couple of lines in rotary so no busy signals .
digital recorder :

Skip, I don't understand what that recorder does. The link says it records 16 seconds.

the recorder answers the call and plays your message you mentioned another cell line , but how will you play your message /you can let it go to voice mail but the voice mail greeeting is probably less then a minute the digital recorder plays 16 min
Record 16 seconds
Skip, the website says 16 seconds!!!!
Is that a typo?

no typo , I speed read 16 min made sense but it is 16 seconds , just time for a quick message , obviosly not what you need I went to the manufacturers site and it looks like 12 min is the best they can do http://www.vikingelectronics.com/products/view_product.php?pid=49This unit is probably $$$ overkill for what you need Ive set this stuff up before but usually through Voice mail as a submenu , time can be as long as we set how big are you guys ?do you have a office with a phone system ? or just a couple of lines ?I hadnt seen the kind of stuff posted for realators , looks like it might be most cost effective
We use our cell phones for all calls. Were as fly by night as you can get here in Michigan.
I wouldn't mind a hardline that was dedicated to this, but it's hard to justify the $75 monthly + the voice mail service when were just trying to deliver a message. Maybe Vonage or Skype?

ok I looked at vonage , skype and bell voicemils and I dont see any type of announcment function. this would work with a POTS line , pop a caller ID box on and your sethttp://www.twacomm.com/catalog/model_DVR1800.htm?sid=D8249A5DFDA25930E761DEC47DD023A4if your interested do some googling this site is nice for descrptions but high priced
how about radio ?
for info on this project tune to xxx.xx

We ruled out the radio because we thought we'd prefer to have them make acall, listen to our commercial and also capture their number for marketing purposes.

That's a neat idea, but I don't know how many people will want to listen to a 24hr message, I don't have that much time.....must be a pretty complex project, too.
