Sure. I'd nail right through into the studs. I'd be meticulous on finding the center of the stud, as in nail probing at both ends to be sure of the center all the way up and mark it exactly with a long straightedge.
Most people recoil in horror at the thought but I often do some face nailing as well as blind nailing the tongue, especially at the ends or in wide boards.
