What’s better, a plug for an oven or leave it hard wired? Is one better than the other? Does it matter?
I’m asking this, because I just had to pull out the oven where I’m installing a laminate floor, and the oven was hard wired in, nothing abnormal. But my customer asked me if that should have a plug on it and I was a little stumped. I mean, sure, a plug makes it easy when you want to get behind the oven for something, but how often does a homeowner really need to get back there? Is there any code requiring a plug?
Thanks

I do believe it is code just about everywhere that a plug is required. No Home owner should be playing with the connection just to clean.
Oven or range? Range should have a plug, but a wall oven could be either way, electrician's choice. How often does the HO think they'll be taking it out?
Thanks Mike, it's a range, though I called it an oven, it's your typical old style range.
Whoever installed it probably didn't want to spring for the extra $40 for the plug and outlet. Seems like I have need to unplug mine a couple of times a year, usually just to deep clean the dust from the back of the unit, and retrieve all the stuff that seems to migrate back there (marbles, legos, army guys, matchbox cars, my favorite paring knife that's been missing for 3 months, cat toys, etc.)
