My current Job is a bath remodel.
Today when I was taking apart the tub drain assemby, I got to the drain in the floor and the “cross” that you use the basin wrench on was broken off .
So now there is nuthing to get a grip on to remove the drain …
Any time tested techniques or seat of the pants suggestions or wild a$$ guesses on how I can get this apart??
BTW the Fiberglas tub is being reused and refinished , so I can’t dammage it …
I got a cutting disc for my dremel (the 22$ carbide one!!) so I am gonna try that Tomorry.
as usual THANX in advance!!

Can you bend up the flange on the "good" part of the tub with some needlenose pliers and start turning it that way? Does that make sense at all?
Maybe someday I'll know a little something.
Can you get a rubber strap wrench on it? "But to be honest some folks here have been pushing the envelope quite a bit with their unnecessary use if swear words. They just put a character in to replace a letter. But everyone knows what they're saying." Sancho
Cutting it was what I was going to suggest.
Or a GAINT easyout.
I am trying to thing about some thing that you can jamb in their and it would lock.
The onlything that I am coming up with is to cut a tapper octagon out of hard wood. Don't know if that would get enough grip or not.
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
They actually make tub drain easy-outs, or 'extractors' for this very situation. A plumbing supply store would have one. I think HD sells a Ridgid adjustable internal pipe wrench as well. But honestly, the old cut a v-notch on the collar of the drain and tap it (ccw) w/ a hammer always works, unless the threads are hopelessly rusted/fused. Sometimes a badly corroded drain shoe (the part that the drain screws into) will simply collapse no matter what method you use...then it's time to open up the wall.
I da MAN!!!
Dremel did the job in <5min.
didn't even use the 22$ wheel!!!

I'm curious. What did you do??? I've run across this several times before, and did the cut and notch and hammer and chisel thing. Five minutes sounds alot better.
used a reinforced cutting disc and cut about 1/8" down from the top flange around the inside of the drain.Welcome to Breaktime
