Plumbing Goof Rosette cap

BillHartmann | Posted in General Discussion on August 19, 2006 08:05am

Customer has an old bathroom with tub and tile surround.

It appears that at one time or another the wall was opened and the maybe the vavles where replaced or not. But it appears that the tub spout location was changed.

Hard to tell what happened as the valves are old and could be orginal.

But there is a hole that was filled with thinset. It is into 2 tiles. Due to the color of the tile and the design I don’t see of any good way to replace the 2 tiles or even row and make it look like it was a design done on purpose.

Thinking of replacing it with color grout and/or staining it to get it near the color of the tile.

But I am wonder if there are any decorative chrome rosettes that you put used to cover this area. I am guess something about 1 1/2 – 2″ dia with a hidden fasterner (or glue on).

    soap dish or shampoo rack?

I have seen blanks, most good plumbing supply houses should have a few to choose from.

plumbing supply has what yur looking for...

they are the clean out trap covers and come in a varity of styles and colors (brushed, chrome, brass paintable metal or plastic)

there are snap in valve covers too in the same..

The cleanout covers are too big.And the location is not right for a soap dish. But I found them after finding the right term to seach for.I have to spell it out for the censor.c.o.c.k. hole cover.http://www.a-ball.com/adtemplate.asp?invky=13768You will find a lot of VERY INTERESTING sites. Many of them don't have anything to do with plumbing. But Faucett hole cover will also work for a search term and you get better results. The snap in won't work. But many of them have a stud and use a backing plate and wing nut.I will either use a sealant to mount it and/or put a toggle on on the stud.

I've seen the clean out covers as small as 1,75" IIRC..

        still too big???

I just found some 1 1/2". But they all have a screw in the front of them. There all also friction fit ones, but they are only for bigger ones.Well it gives me some options, but I think that I will start with the hole covers first.

better clear out your history, if your wife see's you've been looking for co ck hole covers it might be an uncomfortable few minutes until you get it straightened out

No wife, no problem. But probably a good warning for others that might see this thread and want to know how they are used for non-plumbing purposes.

Drill the patch, put in a plastic anchor and screw that stud in.

If any censor on a construction forum does not know that the proper term is cock-hole cover then there is something wrong!. How about gage-cock, gas cock, etc. Plumbers have more sexual comments that they use. Luck.

They might have toned down the list, but a supprising number of common words where being replaced with #####.

          1. Shacko | Aug 21, 2006 01:38pm | #15

I think that it is counter productive, a person that is not familiar with the item will have a hard time finding it when the word has been censored. You can't ask for a ##### at the supply house!

Interesting idea. But at the present time I don't have any access to the back side. It is back to back with a shower in the MBR bath. Some time in the future that is going to be demoed. But no access at this time.
