A plastic tube runs from our basement to our kitchen to supply filtered water to an icemaker refrigerator. We do not have an icemaker refrigerator. In the basement, I want to cap the brass fitting that connects the copper supply pipe to the plastic tubing. I screwed down a brass cap and it leaks. Tried it both with and without teflon tape.
What should I do?

Remove the cap, cut a piece of innertube into a round circle to completely cover the inside base of the cap, then reinstall
Thanks! I never would've thought of that.
Never ever want to revive this connection?
Put a glob of plumber's epoxy putty in the cap and torque it down. No teflon tape, that would interfere with the bond. It will never leak (or work as a supply fitting) again.
I think eventually we might want to use it, so I'd rather not make the seal permanent.
It's probably not a pipe thread, but a straight thread for a compression fitting. I'm guessing you used a cap with a pipe thread. The proper way is to buy a cap specially made for compression fittings. But, you may have a tough time finding one. The other suggestions would work fine.
Or maybe it's the other way around. The cap was labeled "compression cap." Maybe it's the wrong kind. It was the only 3/8" brass cap I could find at Home Depot.
Home Depot.
That's the problem, go to a plumbing supply store, or in a pinch an Orchard Supply ( they have a much better supply of small parts like this)
