I bought a house w/ a Whirpool Jacuzzi which has been spitting out black slimy stuff. Assuming it was black alge, I tried a pool product, followed by diswasher detergent which did not do very much. Today I had to rip out my dining room celing to get at an old leak (DON’T EVER INSTALL THESE THINGS WITHOUT ACCESS PANNELS!). The inside of the pipe I removed is disgusting. Black slime coating the entire pipe.
any suggestings (besides repiping?
thx

have you tried killing the stuff with bleach in the tub water(it might take a few gallons to dilute to recommendations on jug)and circulating it thru the pipes. Then flush clean water thru. Dont know if this would work but it kills algea in a/c condensate lines.
*I had the same thought. To tell you the truth, I am not even sure it is black-alge. Do you think bleach may damage anything, i.e., rubber gaskets etc?thxscc
*I wouldnt think the bleach would damage anything as long as you mixed per the label and rinsed a few times with clear water in the tub to flush out the stuff. Heck what have you got to lose. I would think the gaskets and all would be made for contact with mild chemicals anyway since people put all kinds of soaps and junk in those whirlpool tubs.
*Most whirlpool or jacuzzi type tubs recommend using a mild bleach solution once every few months to knock out any critters that may be residing in the tub's plumbing. The only thing that the bleach may hurt are the "good" critters in your septic system. Give it a fill, let the jets run for a while, then drain. It may take a few attempts to get a thorough cleansing.
*Don't know if it will work the same in a jacuzzi as in a dishwasher; but a good dose of Tang cleans dishwashers of anything and everything including slime, iron and hard-water scum. Then followup with a disinfectant dose of bleach water. When picking the bleach be sure to use the non-perfumed version. How much Tang? Well, in a dishwasher you make a direct substitute of Tang for soap on its' most aggressive cycle. If you decide to try let me know what happens.(Now you know why I can't drink the stuff)
*Hey, they make an orange hand soap now that takes off anything supposedly and those two furniture guys from Philadelphia on cable tv use nothing but a citrus stripper! Will you soon need to handle Tropicana and Minute Maid as a HazMat?
